10 tips to save energy cost of your home

When we buy a home, we often neglect the additional expenses that will add after occupying the home. The electricity bills are one of the most common additional expenses that bother each one of us.   1. Switch them Off: Switching off the electrical appliance or gadget when not in use can help you reduce your electricity bills.
  2. Unplug: Unplug the devices that are infrequently used. You can put your desktop to sleep when you are not working which will allow minimum power consumption during the time of inactivity.
  3. Take control of temperature: set your thermostat at medium temperature as higher temperature will add to your utility bills.
  4. Use the sunlight wisely and switch on the bulbs only when required. Putting on lights in day time also add to your utility bills.
  5. Switch off the lights of the room when you leave the room. The same is applicable to other electrical appliances.
  6. Use of LED bulbs: LED bulbs are the way to go as they are great in power saving and use up to 85% less energy to deliver the same amount of light. 
  7. Efficient use of appliances: Refrigerators, ovens, dishwashers, washing machines, dryers are some of the appliances that require consume a lot of electricity and hence, these should be used efficiently in order to reduce energy costs at home. Keeping refrigerators at optimum temperature can help as it accounts for about 20% of the household electricity use.
  8. Use of electric regulators for the fans instead of conventional regulators and use microwave ovens instead of gas stoves as they are more energy efficient.
  9. Replace old TV set with the LED TV as LED TVs consume less electricity when compared to old plasma TV sets.
  10. Buy energy saving bulbs and also get light colored curtains and make maximum use of the sunlight.
